PSYCHOSOCIAL SOCIAL COUNSELLING TRAINING

IN-BUT FREE in partnership with the Ministry of Home Affairs continued its effort to build the capacity of Inmates in the area of psychosocial counseling. The training aimed at enhancing the quality of psychosocial counseling service provision in the correctional facilities in Zambia After the successful psychosocial training that was conducted at Mukobeko Maximum Correctional Facility for inmates and the positive feedback that IBF has gotten from the inmates and the ZCS, IBF with the financial support from LHL-International conducted another Psychosocial Counselling training for inmates during the third quarter. This particular training was composed of 34 Inmates who were all Peer Educators and have served for more than a year in practice were selected by Kamfinsa Correctional facility in the Copperbelt province. The training was held at Kamfinsa Correctional Facility in Kitwe from 14 – 25th of September 2020.

PRISONS DAY OF PRAYER

Networking and advocacy are very important to ensure that the organisation influences policy change for the good of the inmates. In this regard, IBF participated in the Prisons Day of Prayer which was held on the 26th September 2020 in Lusaka at The Holy Cross Cathedral.
All regions of the Zambia Correctional Service across the country were represented, and other Non-Governmental Organisations were also present. IBF exhibited the work that it does in the Correctional Service. IBF donated 2020 litres disinfectants meant to be sprayed for prevention of COVID-19, 1010 litres of Powered soap, 10*12 bars of soap to help the Zambia Correctional Service in Preventing the spread of COVID-19 in the Correctional Facilities. The Guest of honour was the Minister of Home Affairs Stephan Kampyongo. The guest of honour as he visited the IBF stand recognised and commended IBF for being the all-weather friend to the ZCS and helping in areas of infectious diseases such as TB and HIV/AIDS and recently COVID-19.
